From A Year With Blessed James Alberione,
Compiled by J. Maurus
Jesus Christ was the first worker
To work means to put to gainful use one's natural and supernatural talents: one's knowledge, health, time, will, heart, and relationships.
It is to imitate God who is ever active, not just in potency. It is a foretaste of the eternal life, which is the real life, that is, in which a person reaches full personal development in the fullness of his activity.
Jesus Christ is the master who with his example and teaching teaches better how to develop all one's natural and supernatural faculties, and raises and directs man to participate in Divinity both in time and in eternity.
Jesus Christ was the first worker. One who works is a worker. Jesus did the work of perfection: he grew in wisdom, age and grace before God and before humans (Lk 2:52). Jesus did physical work: "Isn't he the carpenter's son?"
From Saint and Thought For Every Day,
by Blessed James Alberione
The Humiliation of Christ
What profound humiliation and pain for Jesus! The crown of thorns, the purple cloak and the rod were all ways of scorning Him for having declared Himself the King who was to judge the entire world. Let us ask for true himility of mind and heart and docility in fulfilling God's will daily.
What Strikes Me Most Today
What strikes me most today is the line how Jesus Master raises and directs man to participate in Divinity both in time and in eternity. We are not supposed to wait until after death and hope we participate in Divinity - we are called to do so now, so that it will continue in eternity. This is why we need to know Jesus Master, Way, Truth, and Life - and why we are called to share Him with the rest of the world. We have work to do during this life!
