From Saint and Thought For Every Day,
by Blessed James Alberione
Towards the Resurrection
Our prayer should lead us to a genuinely sincere repentance and to that resurrection we have to reach in the company of the risen Christ. Let us rise above our many weaknesses, frailties, and imperfections to live more fully our Christian life.
From A Year With Blessed James Alberione,
Compiled by J. Maurus
I thirst for love
Taste and see how sweet and easy is my yoke (cf. Mt 11:30). Yes, I want to keep you in my heart because I want to love you. So sweet is your love, so sublime your truth, and so infinite your goodness!
My heart thirsts for love! I thirst (Sitio)!
Sitio, because I have served the world so much and it has not appreciated my sacrifices.
Sitio, because I cannot remain indifferent and insensible to so many benefits received from you, my good Father, from my Redeemer, so much, wisdom and infinite love.
Sitio, because I realize that the greater the thirst, the more can I drink and be happy.
Sitio, because only you can satisfy my intellect, will, and heart; only you can lead me from illusions to reality, to objects worthy of immense, pure love, to things great and glorious.
What Strikes Me Most Today
I like the part in the first paragraph above, "let us rise above our many weaknesses, frailties, and imperfections to live more fully our Christian life." Blessed Alberione doesn't say if we have weaknesses, frailties, and imperfections... He knows we are all human and all suffer from these. I know it's easy to feel that I'm the only one, that others don't appear to be dealing with the same weaknesses, frailties, and imperfections as I am, but we all are. We are all human. I think Satan would like us to believe we are much worse than others. This can make us feel we are unworthy of God's forgiveness and mercy. I need to realize that Jesus did die for me, individually, as he did for every sinner. I don't have to be perfect; I have to be honest to myself about my sinfulness, but use this knowledge as the bridge to a closer relationship with God, not a wall to separate me from God. He knows my sinfulness and still sent His son to die for me - that's how much He loves me (and every sinner). My job now is to believe that Jesus can forgive my sins, repent, and share in the joy of the Resurrection. It is actually because I am a sinner that I can rejoice in Easter. As the first line says, "Our prayer should lead us to a genuinely sincere repentance and to that resurrection we have to reach in the company of the risen Christ." It's a comforting prayer, not a scary or intimidating one.
