The apostles learned docility from the Master
For the apostles Jesus was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And he gave himself to them, his example, his doctrine, his grace, and his life itself, dying on the cross.
For the apostles, Jesus was the Way. He went ahead of them giving them example; he lived with them, as the Gospel says. He chose the Twelve so that they may be with him (Mk 3:15).
They moved with him, with him they were eating and praying. They were constantly seeing him, and the life of Jesus and the style of his life were for them like a law.
Before saying anything, Jesus did it and his words either confirmed or explained it, driving home what he had already taught them with example: practice before preaching (cf Acts 1:1).
And the apostles learned everything with docility.
What Strikes Me Most Today
Jesus the Way - He is the example, the Way, we can follow. The apostles got to spend time with the Lord. We have that same opportunity every time we are in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Spending time with Jesus is "the Way!"
