Romans 6:6
6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
What strikes me most today
This passage means a lot to me. It tells me that it is our earthly body that is crucified with Jesus, so that our eternal body is not held back from eternal joy in Heaven. If we are slaves to sin, we cannot give ourselves fully to Christ. And if we allow sin to dwell within us, we distort the image of God that He made us in, and prevents us from achieving St. Paul's description of "no longer I live, but Christ lives in me." (Gal 2:20) It is so hard to live this, but such an important goal for us to aim for. If we can reject sin, we free ourselves from the slavery that can separate us from God.
